Overview
The CSD_SC_DOMAINS_V view is an Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.1 and 12.2.2 database object owned by the APPS schema and shipped as part of the CSD (Depot Repair) product family. Its documented purpose is to display the mapping between Service Codes and Product Categories. In the Depot Repair data model, the underlying CSD_SC_DOMAINS table stores the domain definitions that associate a service code with a particular domain type — most notably an inventory item or a product category. The view denormalizes these mappings by resolving foreign keys into human-readable values, thereby presenting a single, query-friendly row that carries both the raw identifiers and the descriptive names of the referenced items, categories, category sets, and lookup meanings.
Because the business meaning of the domain record depends on the DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE (for example, whether the domain is an item or a category), consumers would otherwise need to join multiple inventory and lookup views themselves. CSD_SC_DOMAINS_V encapsulates those joins, making it suitable for reporting, concurrent program queries, extensions, and integration interfaces that must determine which product categories or items a given service code applies to. The object holds a VALID status, and the ETRM lists it as a view rather than a table, so it is strictly a read-only projection over its base objects.
Underlying Base Objects
The view text is defined over a join of the following documented objects:
- CSD_SC_DOMAINS (referenced through a SYNONYM) — the driving table, providing the domain records, identifiers, audit columns, and DFF attributes.
- MTL_CATEGORIES_V (VIEW) — resolves
CATEGORY_IDto the concatenated category segment and description. - MTL_CATEGORY_SETS_V (VIEW) — resolves
CATEGORY_SET_IDto the category set name and description. - MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_KFV (SYNONYM) — resolves
INVENTORY_ITEM_IDto concatenated segments and description, keyed by the validation organization returned fromCS_STD.GET_ITEM_VALDN_ORGZN_ID. - FND_LOOKUPS (VIEW) — supplies the
MEANINGforDOMAIN_TYPE_CODEvia lookup typeCSD_DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE. - CS_STD (PACKAGE) and FND_GLOBAL (PACKAGE) — supporting PL/SQL packages referenced in the definition for item validation organization and session context.
All joins to the inventory and category views are outer joins (denoted by (+)), meaning a domain row is retained even when the referenced item or category cannot be resolved. The item join is additionally guarded by a DECODE construct so that the item linkage applies only when DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE equals 'ITEM'.
Key Columns
- SC_DOMAIN_ID — primary surrogate key of the domain record.
- SERVICE_CODE_ID — the service code to which the domain mapping belongs.
- DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE / DOMAIN_TYPE_MEANING — the domain type and its lookup meaning, distinguishing item-based from category-based mappings.
- INVENTORY_ITEM_ID, INVENTORY_ITEM_NAME, INVENTORY_ITEM_DESC — the resolved item identifier together with its concatenated segments and description.
- CATEGORY_ID, CATEGORY_NAME, CATEGORY_DESC — the resolved product category.
- CATEGORY_SET_ID, CATEGORY_SET_NAME, CATEGORY_SET_DESC — the category set context.
- OBJECT_VERSION_NUMBER — optimistic locking version, used by the underlying entity.
- CREATED_BY, CREATION_DATE, LAST_UPDATED_BY, LAST_UPDATE_DATE, LAST_UPDATE_LOGIN — standard audit columns.
- ATTRIBUTE_CATEGORY and ATTRIBUTE1 through ATTRIBUTE15 — descriptive flexfield columns carried through from the base table.
- ROW_ID — the rowid of the base
CSD_SC_DOMAINSrow, useful for direct row addressing.
Common Use Cases and Queries
Typical uses include validating which categories a service code is restricted to, driving Depot Repair eligibility rules, and exposing domain mappings to downstream reporting. A representative query listing item domains for a service code follows:
SELECT SC_DOMAIN_ID, SERVICE_CODE_ID, DOMAIN_TYPE_MEANING, INVENTORY_ITEM_NAME, CATEGORY_NAME, CATEGORY_SET_NAME FROM CSD_SC_DOMAINS_V WHERE SERVICE_CODE_ID = :p_service_code_id AND DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE = 'ITEM' ORDER BY INVENTORY_ITEM_NAME;SELECT SERVICE_CODE_ID, CATEGORY_NAME, CATEGORY_SET_NAME FROM CSD_SC_DOMAINS_V WHERE DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE = 'CATEGORY';SELECT DOMAIN_TYPE_MEANING, COUNT(*) FROM CSD_SC_DOMAINS_V GROUP BY DOMAIN_TYPE_MEANING;
Because the view relies on outer joins and a lookup join on CSD_DOMAIN_TYPE_CODE, reports should anticipate NULL descriptive columns where an item or category reference is missing or unresolvable.
