Overview
PN_VAREN_UTIL is a utility package body in the Oracle Property Manager (PN) module of Oracle E-Business Suite, owned by the APPS schema and maintained with a VALID status in both release 12.1.1 and 12.2.2. Its API classification is UTIL, and it functions as the central validation and helper layer for the variable rent feature set. Variable rent allows lease administrators to define rent streams whose amounts are generated from templates, construction defaults, and breakpoint structures rather than fixed schedules. PN_VAREN_UTIL supplies the reusable logic that validates the inputs for those operations, resolves reference data, and computes derived rent details before records are committed to the base variable rent tables.
The package is strictly internal. The dependency metadata confirms that it is not referenced by any other database object, while it depends heavily on the PN base tables and on the Oracle Application Object Library APIs FND_API, FND_MESSAGE, FND_MSG_PUB, FND_PROFILE, and FND_LOOKUPS. It also depends on PN_DEBUG, which indicates that diagnostic tracing is built into its routines.
Key Procedures and Functions
Twenty-three documented procedures and functions are exposed, organized into four logical groups.
- Entity validators: VALIDATE_LEASE, VALIDATE_RENT_NUM, VALIDATE_LOCATION, VALIDATE_TERM_TEMPLATE, VALIDATE_AGREEMENT_TEMP, VALIDATE_ABST_USER, VALIDATE_FLEX_FIELDS, and VAL_RENT_DETAILS verify that lease headers, rent records, locations, term templates, agreement templates, users, descriptive flexfields, and rent detail rows satisfy the module's business rules.
- Reference data validators: VALIDATE_LOOKUPS, VALIDATE_CURRENCY, VALIDATE_PERIODS, VALIDATE_PERIOD_SET_TYPE, and VALIDATE_CALENDAR_DATE confirm that lookup codes, currencies, accounting periods, period set types, and calendar dates are valid and available for the transaction being processed.
- Combination checks: CHECK_PRORA_CUM_COMB, CHECK_PRORA_INVON_COMB, CHECK_CALC_REPT_FREQ_COMB, and CHECK_CALC_INV_FREQ_COMB validate allowable combinations of proration, invoicing, reporting frequency, and calculation frequency settings so that incompatible configurations are rejected.
- Detail builders and diagnostics: VAR_RENT_DETAILS assembles variable rent detail rows for processing, BREAKPOINT_EXT supports breakpoint head structures, and PVT_DEBUG provides an internal tracing hook used by the debug-dependent code path.
Tables Accessed
The package reads and writes through APPS synonyms. Lease and tenancy context comes from PN_LEASES_ALL, PN_LEASE_DETAILS_ALL, PN_TENANCIES_ALL, PN_PROPERTIES_ALL, and PN_LOCATIONS_ALL. Variable rent data is held in PN_VAR_RENTS_ALL, its sequence PN_VAR_RENTS_S, PN_VAR_RENT_DATES_ALL, PN_VAR_TEMPLATES_ALL, PN_VAR_CONSTR_DEFAULTS_ALL, and PN_VAR_BKPTS_HEAD_ALL. Setup and control data are drawn from PN_SYSTEM_SETUP_OPTIONS, PN_CURRENCIES, PN_TERM_TEMPLATES_ALL, FND_USER, FND_LOOKUPS, GL_PERIODS, and GL_DAILY_CONVERSION_TYPES. FND_FLEX_DESCVAL supports descriptive flexfield validation.
Usage Notes
PN_VAREN_UTIL is invoked indirectly. Oracle Property Manager forms for variable rent templates, rent entry, and breakpoint maintenance call these validators during field validation and before save, which is why the package must be present and VALID for those forms to operate correctly. Concurrent programs that generate or regenerate variable rent schedules use the detail-building routines and the combination checks. Because the package is referenced by two other packages but exposes no dependent objects of its own, custom development should not call PN_VAREN_UTIL directly; the supported extension points are the public PN API and the underlying tables. When diagnosing variable rent errors, DBMS_OUTPUT tracing can be enabled through the PN_DEBUG dependency to capture the PVT_DEBUG output.
