Overview
CSF_PARAMS_PKG is the central access layer for the Field Service parameter repository in Oracle E-Business Suite releases 12.1.1 and 12.2.2. Field Service relies on a broad set of installation-level and user-level setup values that govern scheduling behaviour, task and trip processing, parts handling, service order entry, and messaging. CSF_PARAMS_PKG encapsulates the logic required to read, cache, validate, and persist those values so that other Field Service components do not query the underlying parameter tables directly.
The package declares AUTHID CURRENT_USER, meaning its SQL executes with the privileges of the calling schema rather than the defining schema. It exposes a record type, PARAMREC, which models the complete parameter row as a single PL/SQL structure, and a collection type, PARAMTAB, which is a table of PARAMREC indexed by BINARY_INTEGER. These types allow callers to retrieve an entire parameter set in one operation and then reference individual attributes such as agenda_dayslookback, agenda_refreshwaittime, parts_editserialnumber, soexp_standardtaskduration, or recipients_boundary, along with the associated CSF_M_ prefixed maintenance columns. The presence of the recipients_boundary and csf_m_recipients_boundary attributes confirms that recipient boundary enforcement is one of the configurable Field Service behaviours managed through this package.
Key Procedures and Functions
- QUERY_PARAMETER — Retrieves the value of a single named parameter. It is the granular access point used when only one setup value is required.
- QUERY_PARAMETERS — Retrieves a set of parameters, typically populating the PARAMTAB collection or the PARAMREC structure for bulk consumption by callers.
- UPDATE_PARAMETERS — Persists modified parameter values back to the parameter tables, applying the package's validation and defaulting rules.
- LOCK_PARAMETERS — Obtains a lock on the parameter records to serialise concurrent updates and prevent lost changes during multi-user maintenance.
- Package initialisation and private helpers — Supporting logic, including the C_READ_PARAMETER cursor declared over CSF_PARAMS, that underpins the public subprograms.
Tables Accessed
The package reads and writes CSF_PARAMS and its translated or secured counterpart CSF_PARAMS_S, which hold the actual parameter values. CS_TRANSACTION_TYPES and CS_TXN_BILLING_TYPES are referenced to resolve transaction type and billing type identifiers used by trip-related parameters such as agenda_trip_blg_type_id. PLITBLM is the standard PL/SQL table-to-database bulk DML utility used to apply multi-row inserts and updates efficiently. Access to these objects is through APPS synonyms.
Usage Notes
CSF_PARAMS_PKG is invoked by Field Service forms when setup windows are queried or saved, by concurrent programs and internal Field Service APIs that need current parameter values, and by custom extensions that must respect the same configuration. The ETRM metadata records no packages that reference it, so integration points are primarily the standard Field Service UI and API layer. The LOCK_PARAMETERS and UPDATE_PARAMETERS pairing should always be used for maintenance operations to guarantee consistency.
