Overview
INV_MGD_MVT_RESET_TRANS is an Oracle E-Business Suite PL/SQL package body owned by the APPS schema that belongs to the Oracle Inventory (INV) module. Its single documented responsibility is to reset the movement statistics status of inventory transactions so that those transactions can be reprocessed by the movement statistics concurrent programs. The package is the corrective mechanism used when transactions have been updated in MTL_MOVEMENT_STATISTICS but were not correctly processed — for example, when a statistics run failed partway through, when transaction records were left in an intermediate or error status, or when historical data must be re-evaluated against a revised period.
The package is versioned as 2.0, with the header history showing creation in June 2000, the addition of the p_reset_option parameter in November 2001, and the introduction of the "Pending" movement status in January 2002 to support Reference Period processing. It is classified in the ETRM repository as an OTHER API rather than a standard Open Interface or public business API, and two other packages reference it, indicating it is called programmatically rather than through a single dedicated user screen.
Key Procedures and Functions
- RESET_TRANSACTION_STATUS — The only documented procedure in the package. It updates movement statistics records to a target status of
O - Openso that the movement statistics processor will select and reprocess them. Its documented parameters cover the return status and message list used by the standard EBS API error-handling pattern (x_return_status,x_msg_count,x_msg_data), the API version and initialization flags (p_api_version_number,p_init_msg_list), and the business selection criteria: legal entity, zone code, usage type, statistic type, period name,p_document_source_type, andp_reset_option. - p_document_source_type — the parameter the user searched for. Per the documented comment, it restricts the reset to a specific originating document class, with PO (purchase order), SO (sales order), INV (inventory), RMA (return material authorization), and RTV (return to vendor) as the recognized values. This allows an administrator to reset only the transaction class affected by the issue instead of resetting all movement statistics for the period.
- p_reset_option — documented with the values All, Ignore Only, and Exclude Ignore. It controls whether all qualifying records are reset to Open, whether only records previously marked as "Ignore" are reset, or whether such records are deliberately excluded from the reset.
Tables Accessed
The package operates against MTL_MOVEMENT_STATISTICS via its APPS synonym. This is the Inventory table that stores the movement statistics extracted from transaction history and consumed by the movement statistics reporting and cost-update programs. The reset procedure performs a status update on rows in this table, changing the movement status to Open for the rows that match the legal entity, zone, usage, statistic type, period, and document source type supplied by the caller. No other base tables are documented as accessed by this package body.
Usage Notes
- The procedure is an internal utility rather than a supported public API. It is normally invoked from other Inventory PL/SQL packages, consistent with the two dependent packages recorded in ETRM, and should be treated as subject to change between patch levels.
- Typical invocation scenarios include the movement statistics interface or workbench flows, custom correction scripts for reference-period reprocessing, and diagnostic scripts when a statistics run has stalled because records remain in a non-Open state.
- Because the procedure resets records generically to Open, callers should always supply
p_legal_entity_id,p_period_name, and, where relevant,p_document_source_typeto limit the scope. Omitting these filters can reopen a large amount of history and trigger a heavy rerun of the movement statistics process. - The package is available in both 12.1.1 and 12.2.2, as Inventory table structures and the movement statistics architecture are materially unchanged across those releases.
