Overview
PA_PAXAASVL_XMLP_PKG is an Oracle E-Business Suite PL/SQL package owned by the APPS schema and classified as an OTHER API. Its name encodes its role: it is the XML Publisher (XMLP) report logic package associated with a Projects (PA) concurrent program, specifically the "PAXAASVL" report. The package provides the server-side PL/SQL that Oracle Reports and Oracle XML Publisher use to populate report-level and group-level data elements at runtime, most notably the cover page block of the report output.
The package version header indicates a last modification on 2008/01/02 (revision 120.0), placing it within the standard maintenance lineage that spans both 12.1.1 and 12.2.2 releases. Because the file is flagged "noship," it is an internal report support artifact rather than a public application programming interface; it is not intended for direct invocation by customer code. In Oracle EBS, packages of this pattern supply the data elements that the report template references as XML tags, and control report-level flow through the BeforeReport and AfterReport entry points.
Key Procedures and Functions
The package exposes six documented program units, all centered on report execution:
- GET_COVER_PAGE_VALUES — the function corresponding to the user search term. It assembles and returns the cover page data elements used at the head of the report, at minimum the company name and lookup set values described below. It returns BOOLEAN, consistent with the report trigger convention.
- BEFOREREPORT — the report-level BeforeReport trigger. It executes prior to data retrieval and is responsible for initializing package globals and invoking the cover page retrieval logic.
- GET_COMPANY_NAME — resolves and returns the operating company or organization name displayed in the report header. It returns BOOLEAN.
- AFTERREPORT — the report-level AfterReport trigger, executed after the report body has been processed, typically used for cleanup of package state.
- C_COMPANY_NAME_HEADER_P — an accessor returning VARCHAR2 for the C_COMPANY_NAME_HEADER package variable, which holds the company name header text.
- C_LOOKUP_SET_P — an accessor returning VARCHAR2 for the C_lookup_set package variable, which holds the lookup set identifier used by the report.
The package also declares several global variables, including SEGMENT_LOOKUP_SET_ID, P_debug_mode, P_CONC_REQUEST_ID, P_rule_optimizer, C_COMPANY_NAME_HEADER, and C_lookup_set. P_CONC_REQUEST_ID carries the standard concurrent request identifier, and P_rule_optimizer and P_debug_mode follow the standard EBS report optimization and diagnostic parameter conventions.
Tables Accessed
The only documented table reference is PA_SEGMENT_VALUE_LOOKUP_SETS, accessed through an APPS synonym. This table stores the lookup set definitions used by Projects segment value lookups. The package reads it to resolve the lookup set identified by the SEGMENT_LOOKUP_SET_ID global into the C_lookup_set value surfaced on the report cover page. The package performs no documented writes; its access is read-only lookup resolution supporting report formatting.
Usage Notes
PA_PAXAASVL_XMLP_PKG is invoked indirectly by the EBS report engine when the associated PAXAASVL concurrent program is run. Oracle XML Publisher invokes BEFOREREPORT before extracting report data and AFTERREPORT after completion, and the template calls GET_COVER_PAGE_VALUES and GET_COMPANY_NAME to render the cover page. In 12.1.1 and 12.2.2 the mechanism is unchanged: the package is registered against the report definition and executed in the concurrent manager.
Because the package is documented as referenced by zero other packages and carries an OTHER API classification with a "noship" header, it should be treated as private report infrastructure. Customizations should not call these functions directly; site-specific changes belong in the report template or in a supported extension point rather than in modifications to this package, since patching may overwrite any such changes.
