Overview
HRIFV_GRADE_RATES_BG is a read-only Oracle EBS view owned by the APPS schema and delivered as part of the HRI (Human Resources Intelligence) product family. Its purpose is to present a consolidated, reporting-friendly projection of grade rate definitions and their associated grade rules, pay rates, and pay bases. The view joins the core grade definition table (PER_GRADES) with grade rule rows (PAY_GRADE_RULES_F), rate definitions (PAY_RATES), and pay basis information (PER_PAY_BASES), producing a denormalized result set suitable for HR analytics, extraction, and downstream integration.
The view text carries a header comment referencing HRIVIEW.LDT version 115.3, indicating it originated from the HRI view library. It is defined WITH READ ONLY, preventing DML through the view, and restricts its result set to grade-type rate rules via the predicate NVL(GRL.RATE_TYPE, 'G') = 'G'. This makes it a purpose-built construct for grade-based rate analysis rather than a general rate view. In EBS 12.1.1 and 12.2.2 the object remains VALID and is referenced primarily by HR Intelligence reporting components and any custom extracts that need grade rate data.
Underlying Base Objects
The view is defined over four synonyms resolving to base tables, and it also invokes two PL/SQL packages:
- PER_GRADES (GRD) — the grade definition table, providing grade name, grade id, grade definition id, business group, and date ranges.
- PAY_GRADE_RULES_F (GRL) — grade rule rows supplying effective dates, maximum/mid/minimum values, the rate id, and the GRADE_OR_SPINAL_POINT_ID.
- PAY_RATES (RAT) — rate definitions supplying rate name, rate id, and the unit of measure.
- PER_PAY_BASES (PPB) — pay basis definitions supplying the annualization factor and pay basis name/id.
Two packages are referenced: HR_GENERAL, used for DECODE_LOOKUP('UNITS', RAT.RATE_UOM) and GET_BUSINESS_GROUP_ID, and HR_BIS. The join between grades and grade rules is an outer join on GRD.GRADE_ID = GRL.GRADE_OR_SPINAL_POINT_ID (+), which is the mechanism by which the GRADE_OR_SPINAL_POINT_ID column links a rule to its grade. Rate and pay basis joins are likewise outer joins, and the pay basis is resolved through PPB.RATE_ID = NVL(RAT.RATE_ID, PPB.RATE_ID). Business group filtering applies NVL(HR_GENERAL.GET_BUSINESS_GROUP_ID, GRD.BUSINESS_GROUP_ID) so the view respects the current session's business group context.
Key Columns
- GRADE_NAME, GRADE_ID, GRADE_DEFINITION_ID, GRADE_BUSINESS_GROUP_ID — grade identity and business group context.
- GRADE_DATE_FROM / GRADE_DATE_TO — validity dates of the grade itself.
- GRADE_RULE_START_DATE / GRADE_RULE_END_DATE — effective dates of the grade rule row.
- GRADE_OR_SPINAL_POINT_ID — the column the user searched for; it carries the grade id to which the rule applies and is the outer-join key to PER_GRADES.
- GRADE_RATE_NAME, GRADE_RATE_ID, GRADE_RATE_VALUE, UNIT_OF_MEASURE — the rate definition, value, and decoded unit of measure.
- GRADE_MAXIMUM, GRADE_MID_VALUE, GRADE_MINIMUM — the rule's range boundaries.
- GRADE_ANNUALIZATION_FACTOR, PAY_BASIS_NAME, PAY_BASIS_ID — pay basis attributes used to annualize rates.
- _DF — the descriptive flexfield reference column (
_DF:PAY:PAY_RATES:RAT) pointing to the PAY_RATES flexfield context.
Common Use Cases and Queries
Typical usage includes listing all grade rates for a business group, extracting rate ranges for compensation analytics, and reconciling grade rule boundaries against pay basis annualization.
List active grade rates for a grade:
SELECT grade_name, grade_rate_name, grade_rate_value, unit_of_measureFROM apps.hrifv_grade_rates_bgWHERE grade_name = :grade AND SYSDATE BETWEEN grade_rule_start_date AND grade_rule_end_date;
Locate rules by spinal point linkage:
SELECT grade_or_spinal_point_id, grade_name, grade_minimum, grade_mid_value, grade_maximumFROM apps.hrifv_grade_rates_bgWHERE grade_or_spinal_point_id = :grade_id;
Annualized rate comparison across pay bases:
SELECT grade_name, grade_rate_value, grade_annualization_factor, pay_basis_nameFROM apps.hrifv_grade_rates_bgORDER BY grade_name, pay_basis_name;
Because the view is read-only and resolves business group automatically, queries should not attempt DML, and callers relying on a specific business group must set the session context through HR_GENERAL before querying.
