Overview
APPS.WMS_RULES_WORKBENCH_PVT is a private (PVT) PL/SQL package that provides the supporting lookup and descriptive functions used by the Oracle Warehouse Management (WMS) Rules Workbench. Its header comment (WMSRLWBS.pls, version 120.2) states that the API was created to handle all the procedures, functions, and variables required by the Rules Workbench. In Oracle EBS 12.1.1 and 12.2.2, the Rules Workbench is the UI through which warehouse and operations personnel define, sequence, and test the strategy rules that drive directed put-away, picking, and replenishment. Strategies are stored and evaluated using numeric identifiers and coded values, but users configure them against recognizable business names. This package exists to bridge that gap: each function resolves an internal ID or code into a human-readable display value so the Workbench can present meaningful rows without embedding the decode logic in the form itself.

- Rule definition lookups: GET_RETURN_TYPE_NAME, GET_TRANSACTION_TYPE_NAME, GET_TRANSACTION_ACTION_NAME, GET_TRANSACTION_SOURCE_NAME, GET_REASON_NAME, and GET_ORDER_TYPE_NAME resolve rule input and return attributes to display text.
- Item and classification lookups: GET_ITEM, GET_ITEM_TYPE_NAME, GET_ABC_GROUP_CLASS, GET_CATEGORY_SET_NAME, GET_UNIT_OF_MEASURE, and GET_UOM_CLASS_NAME retrieve item descriptions, item type names, ABC assignment group/class names, category set names, and unit of measure descriptions.
- Organization, party, and reference lookups: GET_ORGANIZATION_CODE, GET_CUSTOMER_NAME, GET_VENDOR_NAME, GET_PROJECT_NAME, GET_TASK_NAME, GET_USER_NAME, and GET_FREIGHT_CODE_NAME resolve organization, trading partner, project, and user identifiers.
- Workbench query support: SEARCH performs the parameterized query used by the Workbench to retrieve rule and strategy records for display.
Because the package is classified PVT, none of these functions is part of the supported public API surface; they are intended for internal consumption by the WMS Rules Workbench code path. A private package global, l_debug_mode, is initialized from inv_pp_debug.is_debug_mode to control debug output.
Tables Accessed
The package reads from a defined set of APPS synonyms. Item and category data is drawn from MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS, MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_KFV, MTL_ITEM_CATEGORIES, MTL_CATEGORIES_KFV, and MTL_MATERIAL_TRANSACTIONS_TEMP. ABC classification is derived from MTL_ABC_ASSIGNMENTS, MTL_ABC_ASSIGNMENT_GROUPS, MTL_ABC_CLASSES, and MTL_ABC_ASSGN_GROUP_CLASSES. Transaction attribute lookups use MTL_TRANSACTION_TYPES and MTL_TRANSACTION_REASONS. Trading partner names come from HZ_CUST_ACCOUNTS and HZ_PARTIES, and user names from FND_USER. Cost group descriptions are resolved through CST_COST_GROUPS. Access is predominantly read-only, since the package serves a display and selection role rather than a maintenance role.

WMS_RULES_WORKBENCH_PVT is typically invoked from the Rules Workbench form (WMS Rules Workbench) rather than from concurrent programs or user-written code. When the Workbench renders a rule definition or search result, it calls the appropriate GET_* function to translate stored IDs and codes into display text; the SEARCH function underpins the result block query. Five other packages reference it, indicating that it sits within a small internal dependency cluster in the WMS rules layer. Because the functions are private and not covered by Oracle's public API policy, customizations should not call them directly; developers needing equivalent name resolution should use the corresponding public interfaces, such as MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_KFV or the INV item APIs, and treat any direct use of this package as unsupported.
